What should we do to extend the life of laptop battery

The question of extending laptop battery life is one of the most annoying concerns to many people especially those who make use of mobile computing. Although a laptop battery may be not a very expensive component to be replaced, generally (30-100)USD,  it is  follow a few simple steps to extend battery life is also should be learnt by the computer owner's.

Of primary importance is to know the type of battery you have. For example, lithium ion batteries work differently than NiCD or NiMH batteries. The latter two should be fully discharged to avoid a memory effect, which will work to deplete the battery life of a laptop. The lithium ion battery should never be fully discharged.  Nowadays, more and more people tends to choose lithium ion batteries because of its better performance and more environmentally friendly.

Most laptops have power saving settings in the desktop. Nearly every computer expert will tell you to use them. It is the simpliest and may be the best way to extend your laptop battery life. Dimming the screen, hibernation, not running the CD/DVD drive any more than absolutely necessary when on the battery all will help.

Avoid your laptop exposure to extreme temperatures. If the system is exposed to extreme cold or hot temperatures, allow it to warm up/cool down before use and before charging.

Use your laptop battery at least once every couple of weeks. While this may seem counter-intuitive given the instruction to avoid needless recharge cycles, but it is not. This is because in order to get the most battery life possible, you must use it. Rechargeable batteries need to be worked otherwise they will lose their effectiveness. This does not mean recharging the battery after every 15-minute use, but rather using the battery for substantially longer periods of time.
